Auckland traffic: Holidaymakers heading north face crucial delays

Holidaymakers are facing giant delays heading north out of Auckland today – and motorists are typically again being urged to stay comfortable on the roads, as the holiday roads toll rose to 11 today.

Transport gurus issued an alert about “significant” delays for anyone heading northbound from Puhoi to Warkworth.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Commissioning put it down to holiday traffic and so said: “Please allow extra time inside your journey or consider using State Roads 16 via Helensville. ”

People planning to travel over the holidays are encouraged to check the NZTA website to get an idea of travel occasions during the period.

Meanwhile, a crash about State Highway 1 at Karāpiro in the Waikato is causing looper.

Emergency services are responding to the collision near the intersection with Karāpiro Rd.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said the experience is blocking lanes.

“Please be patient while disaster services assist with this crash, inch an alert issued on Twitter announced.

NZTA revealed the crash just after 11. 30am and said delays of up to quarter-hour could be expected.

Law enforcement agency are pushing a message to person to “drive safely and arrive alive” over the holiday period.

It comes as the official holiday getaway road toll climbed to 11 dying, death, after a person was killed in some crash between a car and a vehicle in the Lower Kaimai Ranges ancient this morning.

Shop assistant Commissioner Scott Fraser said: “We know people will be keen to start home and the weather conditions will make operating challenging in many parts of New Zealand.

“But you don’t want to see any more families depending tragedy this holiday period and need all road users to play or perhaps part in getting everyone home firmly.

“It’s very easy – keep your speed down and moreover appropriate to the conditions, watch your coming distances, put the phones away not to mention take a break if you feel fatigued. ”
