A surge in last-minute Christmas shopping has resulted in a new record for the most transactions for every second that Paymark has harvested.

Final commissions figures for the day are yet about being collated, but Paymark – of which processes most of New Zealand’s Eftpos payments – reported that, as of 2pm, Kiwi consumers had previously spent more than $166 million.

The busiest what time it is has likely 12. 30pm every time peak of 204 transactions for each second were processed.

The previous record was one-eighty-eight transactions a second. The daily mean is usually around 60 transactions an second.

“Christmas Eve always gives the network the workout and we work hard to ensure the dealership network is fully operational, very well Paymark chief executive Maxine Elliott agreed.

As numerous 2pm, about 3 million dealings had been processed through the network towards the midnight.

“The Paymark team is extremely aware of the importance of the Christmas season for retailers, particularly supplied the issues of 2020, ” Elliott said.
