Rest room Focus: V8 Trike Tours create up lost ground in Rotorua

New Zealand

‘Cruise ship operation was 80 % of our income’. Made with funding totally from NZ On Air.

From enjoying a coach business in the UK to beginning V8 Trike Tours in Tauranga, the past five years have been hacia roaring success for one rowdy tourist operator.

Nigel Busbridge’s 5-seater V8 motortrikes are amazing to New Zealand.

“The first place I saw them within Napier, ” Busbridge said.

“There was a guy thought to be Victor that got one running down there. I went down with my partner for a weekend and saw it driving around and I had a conversation with the guy and found out that they were built in New Zealand and nowhere else.

“I said to my wife those vehicles would definitely work off of the cruise ship operation at the Mount. ”

After putting the feelers out to purchase one, two were found that had been recently shipped to Fiji.

“We had both of them sent back, completely refurbished. Now we’ve been operating… this is our 4th year and to be honest if we could buy more of these trikes we might have them.

“Maybe in no way at this present time with the surroundingtendencies like it is due to the Covid meals, but when the ships are in, these include certainly one of the crowd pullers for any tourists, particularly the Australians. ”

Like many other Mount Maunganui businesses that rely heavily within cruise ship passengers, Covid has strike hard.

“It’s browsing a huge impact on our business, ” pointed out Busbridge.

“We’re gleeful in that we don’t have any finance regarding vehicles, they’re all owned straight up. I would have said the cruise ship operations was 80 per cent of our purchases if not slightly more. ”

To fill the gap, the business had to think differently, and already caters for a variety of group bookings ~ from birthdays and Christmas group to one-off occasions. And for at the first time in five years of operating Busbridge says the bikes will be separated.

“From the beginning of January we’re going to be operating one of the iSite on Fenton St back in Rotorua, which will be primarily operating walk-thrus to the Green and Blue Waters and out to the Redwoods. And when demand requires it, we’ll give out another one. ”

While there’s only one thing Busbridge, every other business at the Mount, could possibly be wishing for this Christmas…

“We’re desperate for the Australian consumer to come back. ”
