Napier speedway incident that hospitalised boy or girl to be investigated

An incident at an dinner at Meeanee Speedway in Napier that saw a young person taken to facility in an ambulance will be “fully investigated”.

A Saint John spokeswoman said a person was likely on Saturday night taken to Hawke’s Clean Hospital in a moderate condition after the incident at the track.

A spectator in the pack claimed a child four rows goose down from him was hit in the pinnacle by a spring, which had flown off a stock car.

The spectator described this a “freak accident”, but claimed the events that led to it, and also official response, needed to be reviewed faithfully.

Saturday resulted in Meeanee Speedway hold its very first demolition derby of the 2020/2021 cool season, with the Hawke’s Bay Streetstock Titles also being held along with sang for in the saloon, superstock, stockcar and ministock classes.

Meeanee Speedway Promotions defined in a statement it is working with Speedway New Zealand following a report before an incident at the event.

A spokesperson added of which for privacy reasons they were unable able to confirm any further specifics, such whether the person affected was a spectator at the event, or whether they ended up a child.

“All incidents reported to us would be fully investigated to ensure, in the wording of our sport, all reasonably cost effective steps are taken to minimise a part of to both competitors, in-field worker and the public, we are unable to provide extra comment until such time to be our investigations into the incident together with appropriate processes are completed, very well the statement read.

Worksafe New Zealand pronounced at 4pm on Sunday they not been notified of whichever incident at the Meeanee Speedway.
