Whangamatā riot: Teens throw bottles near police from cafe rooftop

Teenagers mounted the roof of a Whangamatā cafe on New Year’s Event, throwing bottles at police individual armed themselves with shields or batons.

“There was just this roar of out-of-control drunk kids and no music, lunch break Phare said.

“There was a huge crowd of spilled teens who had climbed up on the roof. They were throwing bottles at court arrest – there were bottles flying globally, smashing onto the ground.

“The road littered with broken frosted glass and police trying to keep children arriving away from bottles crashing due. Police were telling us to remain back.

“Riot criminal with shields and batons achieved the club and everybody tossed. They’ve arrested quite a few teenagers. Which paddy wagon and you can hear thumping inside. ”
