Two rescued from Lake Ellesmere, southerly of Christchurch, after dinghy kitchen sinks

A family have been plucked from Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora after their motorised dinghy sank this afternoon.

LandSar sent a rescue launch combined with St John a rescue msr to the lake, near Banks Peninsula, south of Christchurch, about lima. 40pm.

A customer told police he saw closet occupants in the vessel as it sank.

The rescue micro helicotper took one person to hospital.

A police spokeswoman decided not to know the condition of the person in the dinghy, but it is not believed to be life-threatening.

The second occupant was arrive at shore by boat and treated by St John at the life.
