Auckland ratepayers fork out $100k to repair hooliganism in parks

A contact growing repair bill for hooliganism of kauri dieback stations, in what seems to be deliberate attack.

Ripped fencing, stolen spray pistols and brushes and broken health stations have been reported, with a expense of more than $100, 000.

Kauri Dieback Management senior classer Stu Leighton said some of the criminal behaviour appears to be targeted.

Auckland mayor Phil Goff asserted such acts of were the new “senseless waste of scarce resources”
that endangered the environment.

“This sort of irresponsible and also pathetic behaviour has cost ratepayers greater $100, 000 and wasted hours and hours of staff time.

“Not only is it putting our very own iconic kauri trees at risk, nevertheless it’s also taking up staff time which is better spent upgrading and protecting tracks in our parks. ”

The mayor is advocating anyone with information about the damage to call any council or police.

From February 2019 to This summer 2020, more than 60 signs seems to be replaced in the Waitākere Ranges. Heavy repairs to fences have are priced around $22, 500, and this is not packed with minor repairs and reinstalling hints that have been knocked over.
