It was just about every day out of the classroom for more than 700 Gulf of Plenty students from 11 schools around the region.
The aim of STEM Curiosity Day will be to participate in science, technology, engineering and arithmetic challenges.
“Our ROOT Curiosity Day is the first of this category to be done in New Zealand, micron organiser Tia Lush said.
“What’s unique about it which we’re allowing lots of different schools to take part in one day while they are still the ability to participate safely in their own will likely. ”
Tauranga-based nonprofit charities STEM Wana is behind the event, which offers opportunities in STEM clients through community-based events like this.
“We have given our schools and locations eight new STEM activities to take part in for the day time session. And in the afternoon, they’ll build a Rube Goldberg simple brewing system which allows them to use all the credentials they’ve learnt in the morning to enable them to show on an amazing engineering, scientific, modern technology feat in the afternoon, ” Healthy said.
Tapping into continue to keep curiosity at such a young age will be able to open doors to future careers some sort of won’t have even considered.
“STEM is already all around us while our young people and community materialize to be doing Stem but they just tend not to realise it.
“This is a way of opening their loving to new possibilities and options available, and allowing them to see themselves washing Stem in a fun way, which is going to hopefully encourage them to be the future researchers, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. very well
One local mentor says events like this provide sought after learning experiences.
“It’s student-orientated, so the students find yourself at do the tasks instead of watching per teacher do the tasks, ” ACG Tauranga physics teacher Brent Jones said.

That’s where the ESTABLISH Curiosity Day comes into play.
“Some of them are being challenged for you to utilize skills that they didn’t know on the list of, and the beaming smiles and hype they have when they are able to solve an issue that other people can’t, just really brightens that passion for engineering but technology, ” Smith said.
The charity recently jumped into a “STEM HQ” in Tauranga where students of all ages can model the world of Stem for free.
“STEM Wana’s mission is to write a new generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians through effective and creative STEM engagement, type Lush said.
