It’s not every day you look at your outdoor property and spot a huge sea big cat just hanging around — but that may be exactly what happened to Mandy Wennekes and her family yesterday evening.
The Dunedin resident says she couldn’t take her eyes when she deiscovered the sea lion sitting on her property.
“We enjoying just a bit bewildered, ” she recounted. “It’s not something we any kind of thought we’d see. ”
The family live on River Drive, a stone’s throw out of your beach, but it is the first time they have personally received a visit from a sea creature before.
“We’ve had horses come up the check from the beach before, by accident, mutually wrong turn leads them into your property, ” she explained, “but never a sea lion”.
To get to their lawn, the ocean lion had to go up three walkways, including one up a aggressive hill.
The animal hung around for a good essential hour and did not seem bothered by the dogs barking at it.
Hearing your current commotion from the dogs, her man tried to see what all the talk was about. That’s when he spotted the huge creature hanging about in their assets.
“My guilty party tried to get a wee bit more close to him and he started making noises so we stayed clear of him. ”
“I think they’ve been looking for mates at the moment, ” Wennekes said.
“All females are hiding in the rose bush with their pups. ”
After 30 or so calling, the animal continued on his merry approach, and was reportedly later came across back on the beach.
After posting a photo regarding her visitor to the local Fb group, the Dunedin resident came contacted by a member of the New Zealand Sea Lion Trust who solved the sea lion is over 10 years antique and a male.
“What a gorgeous beast of a customer! I love how politely he’s session at the wee fence. This hefty fella is definitely 10+ years old you would like to that mane, wow – and happens to be what we refer to as a beachmaster, in Jordana, from the Sea Lion Think in, told the resident.
“I’m a bit surprised this person is in Otago and not down inside of Subantarctic Islands mastering a of this full of ladies! But also…. he realistically still just looks like a big pup to me! A very very very big canine friend. So glad you enjoyed them special encounter that would not happen any place else in the world, ” she added.
