Hawke’s Clean police have significantly upped the number of staff working on New Year’s Event this year compared to last.
Acting Hawke’s Bay area fixer Inspector Martin James said the particular increased numbers are a direct reaction to a large disturbance last year which did find a police vehicle vandalised in Waimarama.

James claims the other key areas police are going focusing on are Waipatiki, Marine Ornement and the Napier CBD.
They are also deploying staff to the south beaches; Pourerere, Porangahau and Blackhead.

Their Napier City Council is doing a New Year’s Eve event with the help of bands and fireworks at the Soundshell, from 7pm to midnight, and James said there would be additional law enforcement officials in the vicinity throughout the evening.

The Soundshell event’s headline act is Nude Gun featuring special guests Margot Pierard & Anton Wuts, using support from Izzy Lorch, Unquestionably the Tramps and Rezpect Dance Crew.
There will be fireworks showcases at 9. 45pm and midnight.
Hastings also has fireworks displays at those times at the Fiesta created by Lights at the Tomoana Showgrounds.
The gates open of 8pm, with rides for children together with the Pulse Band playing before the signals turn on at the normal time of 9pm.
