Kāpiti Coast Airport will have a series of enchanting closures from tomorrow until May 1 due to a lack of Airways administrator to operate the Aerodrome Flight Instruction Service (AFIS) at the airport.
The closures are at assortment times over the next two months, an for up to five hours at a time.
AFIS provides information employed to pilots for the safe and effective conduct of their flights.

“This is not an issue we are getting at other airports, it is only Kāpiti Coast Airport that is affected.

Kāpiti Coast Airport spokeswoman Dani Simpson from NZ Prop Corp Ltd said, “AFIS services work as independently provided by Airways, a state-owned enterprise.
“They are currently experiencing severe staff shortages and they are unable to provide a full staff roster while they work to address often the shortage.
“In selection with our airport exposition, Kāpiti Sea-coast Airport will be closed when AFIS is not on-watch: safety is essential.
“Airways has done it can be best to cover all regular scheduled commercial flights and to maximise typical flight hours for general aviation users though managing the workload of its gym personnel.
“NZ Prop Company Ltd remains fully committed to expect operating its aerodrome in full deference with its legal obligations. ”
In order to avoid disruption, the closures have been scheduled in order to provide coverage at the time scheduled airline flights should be coming and going, meaning that the modifications are unlikely to affect Breeze Chathams’ commercial service.
