Mā ori lawyer Tū manako Silveira makes history with mataora

Tūmanako Silveira is not bothered via opinions of those who do not accept mataora.

Tūmanako Silveira of Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Raukawa and Pare Hauraki, is definitely the first Māori man with a mataora, that Te Ao Mārama appreciates, to be admitted to the bar to get lawyer.

“I’m thrilled, I’m ecstatic, it’s completed a long time to attain this achievement, these days is about celebrating those who helped so supported me to reach this motorola milestone, my teachers, my family and my pals. This day is to honour them. If that weren’t for them, I would not be on this iste today. ”

Silveira has a strong relationship having tā moko artist Cy McLeod. After receiving his pūhoro, Silveira decided the time was right to adopt his mataora and represent often the symbols of his ancestors.

“The role ın the lawyer is to represent those who are intended before the courts, and I want typically court to hear te reo title of throughout its walls, and for some sort of court to hear the divine council, the essential force and sacredness of the ones who are before it. ”

Carrying the taonga together

Using a Māori women who have paved the way operating in law with moko kauae, among them Deputy Chief Judge Caren Sibel, and now Māori men have a role toy in Silveira.

“Those women who have been there upkeep that tradition, and so it’s these products who are carrying this taonga, I will be also supporting it, it’s some of us who hold this taonga collectively. ”

Silveira is no stranger to Te Ao Māori, as a graduate of kōhanga reo and kura kaupapa Māori education he is fluent in tegul reo and has a firm grasp concerning tikanga.

Each cultural ambassador, Silveira is a player for the world-class Te Mātārae our Ōrehu kapa haka.

He’s not bothered owing to opinions of those who do not agree to mataora.

He’s not one to shy away from politics, either. Silveira is No 14 round the Māori Party list. The University or college of Waikato graduate is all for legal aspects relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, to land and even criminal law.

“I pursued law for the sustenance of my people and our kids, to uplift my people with this line of work, and I’m captivated with it. Law impacts upon most people in this country, so it’s only perfectly that our people understand how it acts and all of its ways. ”

Silveira will often pursue his legal career as a member of the legal team at Annette Sykes & Co in Rotorua.
