Springing to life of Christchurch’s northern corridor freeway delayed

The much-anticipated opening of the Christchurch northern fermeture has been delayed because of forecasted dust.

A soft launch to produce Canterbury’s newest roading project must have been expected today but the weather does offer dampened the opening.

The Waka Kotahi NZ Send Agency announced the postponement through Twitter.

It will most likely open to do with Tuesday.

A 10km stretch of the northern corridor seemed to be set to partially open on Sunday to help bed in the chip closure surface before opening all four lanes of the motorway and the adjoining provided path in mid-December.

From November 30 to To 11, one traffic lane all over each direction will be open.

Northbound traffic can choose the several CNC as an option between 7am and 4pm, southbound traffic can use the CNC between 10am together with 6pm.

The lane will shift during the day so all 4 lanes are used.

In December 12, 2pm-6pm, NZTA could be planning an open day, where employees can walk or cycle this motorway.

After the wide open day, the motorway will be closed to allow the finishing touches are put on it ahead of its stuffed opening on December 17.

The CNC stretches the Northern Motorway through to QEII Drive and Cranford St which is designed to make travel times in and out of Christchurch shorter.
