Students engage in the Nutcracker ‘directors cut’. Manufactured from funding from NZ On Airline.

Around 200 students of Shirley McDouall School of Dance will trade their leotards for costumes when they certainly perform The Nutcracker, a widely recognized ballet set to one of the most recognised involving classical music on the planet.

“It’s a traditional ballet, ” Gerente Melissa Tate said. “We’re doing the full length version which people don’t often get to see in Whanganui. ”

Tate must have been a student at the school and now gives you it. After studying at the NZ School of Dance she sang across the usa in the famous Footnote Dance Firm} returning to Whanganui to teach.

In 2011 Tate received international attractiveness for gaining the highest mark over the world in her Teachers Associate Party Exam, and flew to English to accept the Giles Bursary you get with the International Dance Teachers Association.

This production of the Nutcracker took over the Opera House yesterday where a small army of volunteers sewed, stapled and organised in direction of strains of Tchaikovsky. For many ballet dancers and crew, it’s not their first glance, but all the experience in the world is not mean it’s a sure thing.

“The amount of students that we have on stage from the junior school one time is certainly a challenge, ” Tate acknowledged. “Because if anybody is seven counts off that’s it, whereby ballet can be ruined so it’s slightly amazing, if it works out. ”

Tickets are still available online nor at the Opera House for few hours shows at 3pm on Saturday while Sunday.
