Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge: Broadcaster Heather du Plessis-Allan’s dash inside the top

Lindsay was the fastest woman up the 1103 stairs of Auckland’s Sky System, but the real champions were generally the firefighters at her side, broadcaster Heather du Plessis-Allan says.

The host most typically associated with Newstalk ZB’s Drive and more many other 400 others climbed the city’s landmark tower yesterday for the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge supporting Leukaemia & Blood Cancer Spanking new Zealand. More than 783, 000 are raised through the challenge by beginning Saturday afternoon.

Du Plessis-Allan was the fastest lady friend, with a time of 12m 29s.

But the broadcaster was being quick to point out as a Squad 2 member – a non-firefighter participants – she had an easier way up the tower’s many steps.

Fellow Squad 31 component, New Zealand Breakers chief executive Laura Walsh recorded a time of 11m 37s while cancer survivor and also funding campaigner David Downs manages to do it in 19m 48s.

The fastest firefighter was Josh Harrison, with a time of 8m 17s, and the fastest female firefighter Sally Sinclair, at 13m 28s.

In the Firefighter of Steel category, where participants wear specific heavy gear, Mike Steenson ready in first place, at 13m 30s.

Du Plessis-Allan was taking part in her first stair challenge, after being encouraged due to fellow participant and ZB broadcaster Ivanka Zonich, who completed the most important climb in 19m 10s.

Training was new until about a month out from the festival, when she began spending extended on the step machine at the gym in addition climbing the five flights relating to stairs in the NZME building so where 10 reps equals the number of stages in the stair challenge.

Still, du Plessis-Allan is not sure how she’d go, and as well , was amazed to climb the actual tower in just over 12 free minutes.

“All I actually do is walk around an air-conditioned normal office all day. ”

Every day seven children and adults in Contemporary Zealand are diagnosed with a body cancer such as leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood condition.

Funds raised in the stair challenge are used by Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand to help patients and their families as being a programmes, hospital visits and issuing information, and supporting research based on cures and better treatments.
