Local residents visited Rotorua’s council chambers to present submissions for any of the return of Pururu Reserve.
“We were approached to NgÄti Kearoa, NgÄti Tuara the return of land that they owned gifted to the council some a long time ago, ” Rotorua Lakes Council family manager for MÄori, Gina Rangi said.
“We store a hearing this morning to hear universal submissions on whether that farmland should be returned. ”
A local resident Mary Corbett exclaimed the submission was about the return back of land that was gifted because of her father Patu Rahurihi almost 50 years ago.
Rangi said, that have heard the submissions, the selected members voted unanimously to revoke the reserve status of the rugby courts of the reserve. It was a good but important victory for one kama’aina ( who has lived on Tarewa Rd all her life.
“The council has agreed to site again the land, the recreational intrinsic, back to our whÄnau, ” Corbett said. “What will happen is it go under a common law trust this can be Tarewa Marae will then become the walnut creek ca of that piece of land. Then we will view to options for the future of what we’re going to should with it, ” she said.
There are plans to help increase the site into a housing project to assist you to Rotorua’s less fortunate.
